About

Greetings, my name is Muqeet (/muːˈkiːt/). Some people call me Muqta, a nickname I acquired back in 2004. A playful spin on a front-page news article featuring Muqtada al-Sadr, my friends could not resist the nameplay and thus “Muqta” was woven into existence. In Urdu, Ka (کا) means “of” and Nuqta (نقطہ) means a dot or full stop. Naturally coalescing into Muqta ka Nuqta“The point of Muqta”.

I am a British Pakistani, born and raised in London. I liked math and science at school and went on to graduate with a BSc in Physics from UCL. Originally, I wanted to do a PhD, but, decided instead to start working. Soon after graduating, I began my career as a Data Scientist. Over time, I transitioned into software engineering and now enjoy data wrangling as a hobby. Recently, I’ve moved into a less technical role at a sustainability startup, working on expanding the business to Europe. Aside from Software Engineering, I have built up quite extensive experience in the energy space, working many years within the domain – and maybe a little through genetics, as my father worked in energy throughout his career.

I love traveling, exploring new cultures, and hiking, which is one of the reasons I started this blog. I hope it will act as an external outlet for times when I’m on an extended travel break. Traveling abroad offers so many observations and experiences that it’s easy to overlook them. Writing and sharing them in a thoughtful way would help preserve the richness of those memories. My hobbies include playing tennis, watching sports, and learning new things. Nowadays, I don’t watch much TV, but I frequently enjoy documentaries, films, and anime.

Purpose of this space Link to heading

I have two key aims for this space:

  • To share my thoughts, feelings, and learnings on various topics, aiming to be of utility to others.
  • To serve as a place not only for cataloguing but also for expanding upon my existing and new projects and work.

Additionally, this space is for sharing my travels and personal thoughts. While not a primary aim, it acts as an avenue to share aspects of my life and experiences that may not necessarily be useful to others but are meaningful to me.
